Abstract
This paper concerns binders for soil stabilization available on Polish market. Basic characteristics of each binder like the chemical constitution, the principles of action are discussed. The laboratory investigations was performed to verify the action of binders and to compare them to traditional ones - lime and cement. One type of cohesive soil was used in the investigation - from the building site of A1 motoway. The results obtained from the research showed the influence of each binder on the cohesive soil properties, especially on the change of structure and material characteristics. Depending on the type of binder used the properties of stabilized soil samples reached extremely different results. Each type of binder caused increase of compressive strength of the mix but none of them were found resistant to frost action. The best results of stabilization were obtained in case of use of traditional binder like cement or of cement used with additive.
